5 Favourite Tokyo Looks from Fashionsnap

Welcome to the first post for the new year :)

Haven’t been keeping up with streetstyle lately, so I had quite a bit of fun surfing through this website that featured snaps of the best-dressed people strolling down the Tokyo streets.

Do click on the links for photos as I didn’t include them here to avoid any copyright brouhaha :)

Boys

1. Shorts over tights/skinnies

This guy over here executed a look that I always wanted to try but didn’t have the chance because of various reasons (weather, location, body shape, suitable clothes). He balanced this daring move with more conservative vintage items, making the look more ealy 20th century peasant than 1980’s aerobic instructor.  These Tokyo people must be spoilt for choice when it comes to thrift shopping, given how this guy managed to kill this look with almost all vintage/thrift items (except the scarf, apparently from his aunt?). Layering had a nice combination of winter colours, with the ochre yellow cardigan as the star attraction.

2. Tartan Hammer pants (pictured above)

Not a fan of the hair on this guy, but love his Commes des Garcons pantaloons. And it’s in my favourite tartan pattern (not dissimilar to the pattern on Glenn O’Brien’s favourite overcoat). While I don’t appreciate the horsehair adorning his leather shoes,  the ones wrapped around his calves were a great accent though.

3. Winter whites

I am a fan of layering and pleasing colour palettes. Love the hoodie+trenchcoat+white shirt look, and his colour matching goes right down to his pants and sneakers. Not a fan of the over accesorizing (whats with the bike chain and cross, dude..), but I guess this is integral to the fashion subculture he is following. The buttons at his pant bottoms are cool, I wonder if they were originally there or a DIY modification.

Girls

4. Ripped jeans + Shemagh

(photo link)

Not necessarily the freshest trends around, but she  wears them well. The individual pieces of clothing look great themselves and when worn together. And its not YSL, it’s SLY, baby.

5. The frumpy  + Sherlock Holmes

(photo link)

Cape + high waisted pleated skirt + ginger hair + granny bag. I am sure there was more than one camera taking photos of her that day.
